The MIA hosts the final Green Film Lab workshop of 2023
- The TorinoFilmLab and Trentino Film Commission training course on sustainable production will run between 13 and 15 October, with 23 participants working on five features and a TV series
Between 13 and 15 October, the MIA will take on a decidedly green hue. Rome’s International Audiovisual Market, at the tail end of its nineth edition, is set to host the final Green Film Lab workshop of 2023, as part of a programme dedicated to sustainable audiovisual production and organised by TorinoFilmLab - Museo Nazionale del Cinema and Green Film - Trentino Film Commission in collaboration with EAVE, with the support of Creative Europe – MEDIA. Twenty-three professionals hailing from 9 different nations are taking part in the programme and will be divided into groups to work on 5 feature films and one TV series. The idea behind the programme is to get audiovisual professionals from different backgrounds together in order to discuss eco-sustainable practices in audiovisual production - knowledge which is essential to adhere to a green protocol and obtain certification. In this respect, Green Film awards certification to sustainable audiovisual projects across all European countries, including co-productions set to be filmed in various countries.
The Green Film Lab team attending the event includes: Head of Studies Giovanni Pompili, who’s also a KINO Produzioni producer and a TFL alumnus; Louise Marie Smith, who founded Neptune Sustainability; Lucie Trémolières, a screenwriter and director with a particular focus on different emotional responses to the environmental crisis; and Dörte Schneider Garcia, an expert assistant director and sustainability consultant.
In addition to the workshop, an Open Session dedicated to various aspects of sustainability within the audiovisual sector will take place on Friday 13 October and will be open to all MIA badgeholders. The event will take place between 2.30pm and 6.30pm at Cinema Barberini: it will start with a presentation by Eurimages exploring the firm’s work in the field of sustainability, followed by a session on the policy and action plan for green film shoots in Italy, led by the Italian Ministry for Culture and the IFC - Italian Film Commissions. Focus will then switch to the Green Film protocol and a case study on a project which previously took part in Green Film Lab, while the final section of the event will combine a lecture on implementing sustainability on film sets with a focus session on taking a different, more environmentally-engaged approach to writing stories for TV or film, organised in collaboration with Green Ink. The next Green Film Lab workshop, the first of 2024, is scheduled to unfold between 5 and 8 March in Athens, Greece, thanks to a collaboration with the Greek Film Centre. Registration will open on 8 November 2023 before closing on 9 January 2024.
