From June 22-24, Cologne will host the 21st annual Medienforum.nrw convention, one of the most important forums of its kind in Europe. The event brings together representatives from all the international media (printed press, television, film, etc) to discuss the most burning issues of the day.

On June 22-23, the International Film Convention organised by the regional fund NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia), will thus hold a discussion entitled "The crisis is coming, will film survive?". It will examine the possible impact of current economic difficulties on the good results achieved in Germany in 2008 (a 4.9% increase in turnover and a market share of 26.6%) and on the collaboration between the film industry and banks.

Successful director Tom Tykwer will open the convention with a conference on independent cinema in the region and the US, focusing on the differences between the two countries in terms of financing and production and possible collaborations. The event will also look at screenplay composition and new forms of writing, including interactive writing, as well as audiences of the future.

Medienforum.nrw will close with a meeting between all industry members. To register or find out more about the programme, click here.
