Spanish and European films to get increased airtime on La 2

by

In 2010, Spain’s second public TV channel, La 2, will increase airtime for domestic and European films, according to TVE director Javier Pons. The evening prime time slot will thus be dedicated to film, which goes against the trend seen at private networks.

Pons commented: "Now more than ever, we will defend the values of our creators". Every week, four features, including narrative works and documentaries, plus one independent, will be broadcast. This means an increase of 250 hours per year dedicated to promoting Spanish and European cinema.

In 2009, TVE co-produced over 80 audiovisual projects, according to an announcement by Gustavo Ferrada, who heads the film arm of the television broadcaster. In 2010, it will continue “the same commitment, with a 20% increase in investment in narrative, animated and documentary films and TV dramas, as stated in the RTVE financing law".
