FESTIVALS Sweden

Itinerant festival brings arthouse films to smaller cities

by

Six new European films will be previewed in April in 12 small Swedish cities, as part of Hela Sveriges Filmfest 2010 (April 8-25), supported by the Swedish Film Institute.

Jointly organised by Swedish film distributors and exhibitors, the festival aims to broaden the releases of arthouse films outside the country’s major cities. The eight films will tour 12 cities over three weeks (four cities each week) prior to their official domestic release.

“For the most part, we chose films from smaller independent distributors that were available for an exclusive premiere” said festival coordinator Charlotte Wallström. “We hope this pilot initiative will be successful and will become an annual event”.
