Cork set for Rebel City Rumble

After working on over 25 projects as an assistant director, including on celebrated Irish films like Once [+see also:

and Zonad, John Burns will make the leap to director with his first feature Rebel City Rumble, shooting for which will commence in spring 2011.

Set in the fictitious Rebel City, the film follows a failed bank robber who whilst in hiding from the police, falls in love with an Internet café owner. The only problem being, she’s the local gangster’s girlfriend.

Keith McErlean (Goldfish Memory) and musician/actor Roy Harper (Made) will star, with the female lead yet to be cast.

The script is by Stephen Lourdes who will also produce for Peachy Vision, a Cork-based production company that specialises in pre, production, and post services in 35mm and HD and compositing. The company’s expertise in these areas will come in handy, as the film will be shot in Cork on HD. These will be blended in with footage of Manhattan to create a new noir landscape.

Other producers are Burns and Howard Gibbins (The Runway [+see also:

) serving as executive producer.
