Ex Oriente Film Workshop looking for documentaries for 2011 training program

Ex Oriente Film is a year-long international workshop that supports the development and funding of creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. Selected directors and producers develop their projects and funding strategies over the course of three sessions. The projects benefit from the assistance and valuable advice provided by established European producers, directors, audiovisual experts and commissioning editors.

The program concludes with the East European Forum co-production meeting, which gives documentary filmmakers a chance to pitch their project and secure funding from West European and North American broadcasters.

Past participants include such leading documentarists as Juraj Lehotský, András Muhi, Gyula Nemes, Filip Remunda, Alexandru Solomon and Marko Škop.

The first of the three sessions is scheduled for March 7–12. Application deadline is January 15.

The participation fee of €1,500 per project includes all accommodation, coffee breaks and lunches during the three sessions for up to two persons per project. Payment is due February 25. Participants from Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia may apply for a scholarship to cover part of the accommodation and participation fees.

Participants must be proficient in English. The producer and director must attend workshop sessions.

The Ex Oriente Film workshop is organized by the Institute of Documentary Film in Prague.
