Lubaszenko returns with Cheat sequel

by

In the Praga district of Warsaw, actor-director Olaf Lubaszenko has started shooting the sequel to his 1997 hit Sztos (Cheat). Lubaszenko is best known for his acting roles in dozens of films, the most famous being A Short Film About Love by Krzysztof Kieslowski (he was also assistant director on four of the director's Decalogue series).

The first instalment of Cheat blended action film, road movie and comedy, painting an ironic portrait of the fraudsters who tried to get rich in the early 1970s, notably by ripping off foreigners during monetary exchanges. At the time, the film’s enormous success in theatres was mainly down to a cast full of Poland’s best actors, including unforgettable duo Cezary Pazura and Jan Nowicki.

In the sequel, also scripted by Jerzy Kolasa, the director returns with the same protagonists. This time, they are caught by surprise when a state of war is declared in Poland (in 1981) and they have to confront a new reality.

Heading the bill, alongside Pazura, is contemporary Polish film star Borys Szyc. The cast is completed by Nowicki, and other national stars Bogusław Linda, Edward Linde-Lubaszenko and Janusz Józefowicz.

The film is produced by Cezar 10 (founded by Pazura). It will be released in Polish theatres by ITI Cinema in spring 2011.
