Karo’s feature debut the Key to two prizes in Park City

Finnish director Rosa Karo’s feature debut, The Italian Key, won both the Gold Medal and the Director’s Choice Award at the 8th Park City Film Music Festival in Park City, Utah, USA. Having screened more than 200 films, the first showcase in the world devoted to the contribution of composers and their music to film – and a spin-off from the Sundance Film Festival – ended on May 30.

”The photography and luxurious film score create an engaging gem of a movie,” said the jury awarding Finnish composer Tuomas Kantelinen’s score for the Finnish/American/Italian feature, which has previously won an Aloha Accolade in Honolulu and a Silver Ace in Las Vegas.

Launched at the Cannes Marche by Sweden’s NonStop Sales, the Finnish/American/Italian co-production from Helsinki’s Harmaa Entertainment, scripted by Karo, is described as a romantic fairy tale about a 19-year-old orphan.

Her sole inheritance is an antique that not only gives her access to an old villa in Italy, but also unlocks the mysteries of her family history. Starring Gwendolyn Anslow, the English-language film was shot in Italy, India and the UK.

Kantelinen has scored over 30 features, winning two Jussi awards – the national film prizes – for his work with Olli Sarela. He also wrote the music for the Swedish Knight of the Templar trilogy and Russian director Sergei Bodrov’s Oscar-nominated Mongol [+see also:
