FESTIVALS Germany

Comedy festival becomes crowdfunding pioneer

by

He who laughs last laughs longest: the 1st International Comedy Film Festival will be held in Berlin in December thanks to the Internet users who have together raised the €4,500 requested on the crowdfunding platform Startnext. The event thus becomes the first German festival financed entirely by individuals.

The success of the initiative hinged on a dynamic advertising campaign and enthusiastic word of mouth. It was confirmed when the organisers won the Startnext Award for Best Crowdfunding Video (out of 41 projects judged by 1,400 Internet users), worth €1,000.

The young festival is an extension of the Comedy Nights, held at the Filmtheater am Friedrichshain in Berlin every first Wednesday of the month and in Leipzig every second Thursday of the month.

Directors of comedy features and shorts from across the world are invited to submit their projects to the festival until September 1. The terms and conditions and registration form are available here.
