FESTIVALS Spain

All ready for 9th In-Edit Festival

by

On October 27, famous British composer Michael Nyman [pictured] will open the ninth edition of Barcelona’s In-Edit Festival with the screening of German director Silvia Beck’s documentary Michael Nyman In Progress. The event, the most important in Europe dedicated to music documentaries, will present 55 films and run until November 6.

Thirteen of these films are included in the international and national official sections, whose winners will receive a Spanish distribution offer through the In-Edit Master Series. Ten films will screen in the international section, with a clear focus on US cinema, which is represented by six productions and a co-production, John Turturro’s Italian/US title Passione – A Musical Adventure [+see also:

Meanwhile, the national competition will show Carlos Duarte’s Jaime Urrutia: La Fuerza de la Costumbre; Laura Llamas and Víctor Morilla’s Papagordo. En Casa de Raimundo Amador; and Fermín Muguruza’s Next Music Station: Morocco.

Completing the event’s line-up are the “Excedlents” section (made up of works that for various reasons weren’t included in competition) and “Premios” (including documentaries that won prizes at the international editions of In-Edit); and a homage to US director Murray Lerner, which closes the cycle dedicated to the great masters of American music documentaries, after Albert Maysles and D.A. Pennebaker.

The festival’s activities don’t end there, for it has made considerable efforts to provide a space reserved for professionals in the sector. This effort resulted in the organisation last year of the Music Documentary Film Market, whose second edition will run from November 3-6, 2011, giving accredited professionals the chance to view about 120 titles.
