The Stranger Inside moves Broadway to Copenhagen

by

Danish director-producer Adam Neutzsky-Wulff has wrapped principal photography for his feature debut, the English-language The Stranger Inside on locations in Copenhagen, which stood in for the US: the scene at a major Broadway playhouse was staged with 300 extras at The Royal Theatre.

”It is easier to control the budget here – and street shots from New York will be added later,” is the explanation why an American cast of William Baldwin (pictured), Estella Warren, Sarah Butler and Danish actor Kim Bodnia were filming the international thriller in the Danish capital.

Scripted by Neutzsky-Wulff, who has since 2004 helmed numerous episodes for Danish TV series such as 2900 Happiness, The Stranger Inside follows a psychatrist who goes on holiday with his traumatised wife, and one day a young woman turns up at their hotel and asks for help... Also shooting in Majorca, the Danish director originally wrote the screenplay with a local cast in mind, but realised it could easily be translated. So he decided to live out the dream of making a Hollywood movie, although he knew he could never lure top actors by star fees – ”they all signed because they liked the script”, he explained.

Produced with Neutzsky-Wulff’s partner Michael Aoun, their Danish production outfit Drama Deluxe has staged the €550,000 feature on backing from private investors, who joined after seeing a pilot of the film. The project has not been through the traditional financing system of getting public support.

The brother of Alec, Baldwin has performed in 40 US films, most recently in High Midnight, Sexy Evil Genius, Garbage and as Frank Delano in the updated TV series of Hawaii Five-0 (2011); Warren, who had her break in Planet of the Apes (2001), is now filming Manson Girls; Butler appeared in I Spit on Your Grave (2010).
