20/08/2012 - British-born director commits suicide in California

Anthony David Scott, better known as Tony Scott died near San Pedro on August 19. Scott jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge after leaving a note inside his car. He was 68. Scott was born in North Shields, Northumberland, England.

After stints in commercials and television, Scott made his feature debut with The Hunger (1983). He went on to direct a string of hit films including Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop 2, True Romance and Enemy Of The State before going on to forge a successful partnership with actor Denzel Washington with whom he made films like Man On Fire and Déjà Vu and his last release Unstoppable.

Together with his brother Ridley Scott, Tony Scott ran Scott Free productions. Directors UK Chairman Charles Sturridge said, “Tony Scott was a brilliant British director with an extraordinary ability to create energy on screen, both in action and in the creation of character with films like True Romance, Man On Fire and Enemy of The State. He will be greatly missed.”
