by Spain’s Marçal Forés.

As throughout the previous decade, Crossing Europe put a strong accent on local film-makers from the region of Upper Austria, and the Local Artist Award of €4,000 in cash and €2,000 in services from Vienna’s Synchro Studio was given to Rainer Kohlberg for short experimental film Humming, Fast and Slow. A special mention went to Florian Kofler for Pfitscher.

The festival reported 20,000 visitors, which is slightly lower than 21,000 in 2012, but in the light of budget cuts and raised expenditure, the result is considered a success. “The festival budget is still incommensurate with the actual demands of operating a modern, international festival,” said the festival director Christine Dollhofer, and expressed hope that “the funders and sponsors will continue their engagement in the future to the same extent as this year”.
