Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive left with NonStop Entertainment

- The company has been shopping in the upcoming Cannes programme, also acquiring new features from UK director Paul Wright and US director Ryan Googler

Stockholm-based, Nordic and Baltic distributor NonStop Entertainment – now part of Turner Broadcasting Systems – will not leave empty-handed from this year’s Cannes International Film Festival (May 15-26): already now it has acquired three entries from the upcoming programme.

From the Palme d’Or contenders, NonStop has signed for US director Jim Jarmusch’s vampire love story, Only Lovers Left Alive [+see also:

. Jarmusch, who most recently won the Grand Jury Prize in Cannes for Broken Flowers in 2005, has cast Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton (photo) as an underground musician and his lover, whose relationship spans several centuries, tested by her uncontrollable sister (Mia Wasikowska). Sold by Hanway Films, Only Lovers Left Alive has its world premiere in Cannes.

From the Weinstein Company, NonStop picked up US director Ryan Coogler’s feature debut, Fruitvale Station, which won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award in Sundance. Screening in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, with Kevin Durand, Michael B Jordan and Octavia Spencer in the leads, the film follows the last day in the life of 22-year-old Oscar Grant, who was fatally shot by Bay Area police in Oakland on January 1, 2009.

While the Jarmusch and Coogler movies were bought for the Nordic countries, NonStop included the Baltics in the deal for Warp X Film and UK director Paul Wright’s first feature, For Those in Peril [+see also:

, which has been selected for the Critics’ Week in Cannes. George MacKay, Kate Dickie and Nichola Burley star in the story of the  survivor from a fishing accident, where five people including his own brother died. Not convinced that he is really dead, he sets out on a rescue mission.
