The general director of cinema at the ministry for cultural heritage, activities and tourism, Nicola Borrelli, underlined that “thanks to these activating norms, new opportunities and incentives provided for in the 2004 agreement will be able to concretely be used by Italian and Chinese companies.” For the ANICA president, Riccardo Tozzi, “the constant and tenacious work the cinema and audiovisual industries involved themselves with together with our government institutions has been rewarded.”

Each film produced through the treaty’s rules will have a double nationality – Chinese and Italian – and will be able to access all fiscal benefits and public incentives provided for by respective governments for the promotion and diffusion of cinema culture. For Italian cinema, the agreement, which also involves television productions and fiction pieces, offers an important opportunity to overcome the barriers of entry into the Chinese market. This will be able to concretely be used to promote Italy, its cinema culture and indirectly, tourism and the economy of various Italian regions through investments into the audiovisual sector, where China is making its presence increasingly felt.
