. Shooting started in Bucharest at the beginning of last week and is expected to wrap on 16 August. Mitulescu's Strada Film is producing with backing from The Chimney Pot and Film i Vast (Sweden), and Apapaja (Italy). The film received a €468,000 grant from the Romanian National Film Center in April.

Rumeno revolves around Radu (Alexandru Potocean), a young man who returns to his Romanian family after working for one year in Italy. He is warmly welcomed by his wife Monica (Ada Condeescu) and his small son, Luca, but both seem very different. The estranged couple try to spend a night together in order to reconnect, but will their endeavour be as simple as expected? “The film's characters try to answer the question: 'How can you stay close to the ones you love?',” announced the team behind Rumeno in a press release.

It is Strada Film's fourth collaboration with Condeescu, after Florin Serban's If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle [+see also:

Rumeno is one of the 15 projects selected for the first edition of the European Gap Financing Co-Production Market, a new event hosted by the Venice Film Market. The film is expected to hit Romanian screens next spring, hopefully after a selection at the Berlinale.
