Gett to represent Israel at the 87th Academy Awards

film profile], the latest film by Ronit and Shlomi Elkabetz, is Israel's official selection for the submissions to the 87th Academy Awards for the Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film. On Sunday night, the German-French-Israeli co-production won the Best Picture Award at the Ophir Awards, the prizes handed out by the Israeli Academy of Film and Television, which were presented in a very dramatic ceremony on Sunday night in Ashdod, Israel.
The build-up to the ceremony indicated that Talya Lavie's Zero Motivation, a comedy about female soldiers, was going to win the nomination for the Oscar. The film won six awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay for Lavie, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Casting and Best Actress, for Dana Ivgy.
The Elkabetz siblings were exhausted and overwhelmed to win out in the end in such a way, and Ronit Elkabetz said at the ceremony, “Apart from being a personal prize, for me this is the prize of the art and the victory of the spirit of women in Israel who are being refused a divorce from their husbands and have unbearable lives because of it. I hope that our film will open a window of hope for these women and will increase the awareness of this problem, and through this we will help them to gain back their lives.”
Gett also won a Best Supporting Actor Award for Sasson Gabai for his performance as a rabbi representing a man who refuses to grant his wife a divorce.
Israeli actress Ivgy had a very impressive night, winning the Award for Best Actress for her performance in Zero Motivation, and also a Best Supporting Actress Award for Next to Her. Veteran actor Ze'ev Revach won the Best Actor Award for The Farewell Party [+see also:
