Festival charmer Heretic expands to sales agency

“Based in Athens, generated by the needs of the local industries and created by people with a strong international record, Heretic Outreach aims to become the region’s key partner for solid strategies in festivals, sales and alternative distribution models,” revealed Heretic heads Konstantinos Kontovrakis and Giorgos Karnavas on Thursday, via a statement released at the height of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s Crossroads and Works in Progress Agora sessions.

Spearheaded by Ioanna Stais as head of festivals and sales, the child company of festival charmer Heretic Creative Producers will aim to cater to the festival sales and alternative distribution needs of the wider region, focusing primarily, but not exclusively, on films produced or co-produced by Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey and Cyprus.

Betting on their strong international record, the producers of such festival favourites as Rotterdam-screened Wasted Youth, Berlinale Forum entry The Eternal Return of Antonis Paraskevas [+see also:

will “concentrate on the circulation of Heretic Outreach’s films through festivals, increasing by extension their exposure to other distribution circuits, such as theatrical distribution and VoD”, as the statement goes on to explain.

The company, which will be the first sales agency created in the region, will initially handle an eclectic slate of five or six films per year, aiming to present them in all major European markets in order to ensure visibility for its movies, extend contacts with festivals and buyers, and establish new ones.
