The Berlinale Co-Production Market and Eurimages, the European co-production fund backed by the Council of Europe, are strengthening their partnership. During the Berlinale, Eurimages will give out the new Co-Production Development Award, worth €20,000, to one of around 25 projects that are pitched at the Berlinale Co-Production Market from 8-10 February 2015. The potential prizewinners are projects with partners from at least two eligible Eurimages countries. Besides the artistic quality of the project, another important aspect is whether it can be realised as a majority European co-production.

Eurimages already gives out awards at several co-production markets at festivals such as Rotterdam, Sarajevo, Rome, Copenhagen and Amsterdam. “The energising effect this kind of award can have on a new project shouldn’t be underestimated,” says festival director Dieter Kosslick. “We are delighted that Eurimages will be awarding this prize at the Berlinale Co-Production Market.” Two prizes are already handed out at the event: VFF, the German copyright association for film and TV producers, awards projects with the VFF Talent Highlight Pitch Award (worth €10,000) at the Talent Project Market; while the ARTE International Prize (worth €6,000) is given to one of the projects presented at the Berlinale Co-Production Market.

“This new award underlines Eurimages’ commitment to encouraging closer co-operation between producers right from the start,” states Roberto Olla, executive director of Eurimages. “Bringing together creative and technical inputs from different countries is no easy task, and we believe this prize can help.” Furthermore, the most recent winner of the European Co-Production Award – Prix Eurimages, which is given out at the European Film Awards, is invited to join the Company Matching programme at the market. This new networking event brings together experienced representatives from five production companies that work on an international level.

The latest Prix Eurimages winner, Ed Guiney, has an impressive track record. Featuring among the 30-plus films in which he has been involved with his Irish production and distribution company Element Pictures are Frank [+see also:
