The film tells the story of Radu (Tudor Aaron Istodor), a young and ambitious journalist who wants to make a name for himself in the international press. When two underage prostitutes are repatriated from France, Radu is hired as a fixer by a French TV crew led by a famous journalist (Mehdi Nebbou). Radu will soon feel that he, too, is taking advantage of the two girls by using their story.

The screenplay was written by Claudia Silişteanu and Adrian Silişteanu, the latter also serving as the movie’s DoP. Shooting started in the second half of February and wrapped on Sunday. The main locations are Bucharest and the county of Bistriţa, in northern Romania. Other characters are played by Adrian Titieni, Diana Spătărescu, Andreea Vasile and Nicolas Wanczycki

Sitaru told Cineuropa that he has long been preoccupied with the film’s main theme, namely how we take advantage of others. “The way we mistreat those around us, the closest ones – even our own children – in the name of certain values, with our best intentions, is a sub-theme common to my previous films, and it is the main theme of The Fixer,” the director said.
