Ice and the Sky (the screenplay for which was written by Luc Jacquet) deciphers the discoveries of scientist Claude Lorius, who headed off to study Antarctica’s icefields in 1957. This first campaign in the Far South was the founding act of his entire life. In these virgin lands, where no experiments had been conducted before, he realised that each air bubble contained within the icefields at each of the poles was a snapshot of the atmosphere from the era when it was captured. This discovery led to drilling activities that enabled him to go back more than 400,000 years into the history of our climate. Buoyed by this knowledge, throughout his entire life Claude Loris (today aged 82) would go on to try to make people fully aware of the perils that humankind is imposing on its own planet. But all too often, he is met with silence, a lack of understanding, denial and pressure...

Produced by Eskwad for a budget of €2.19 million, Ice and the Sky will be distributed in French theatres on 21 October by Pathé. International sales are handled by Wild Bunch.
