, which took 855,000 admissions domestically.

Spinoffs from their 2005-2009 television sitcom, which was sold for remakes in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland, the features star Hvam and Christensen as fictionalised versions of themselves with a knack for getting into trouble and awkward situations, in a satire on relationships, sex and celebrity culture.

Partly shot in Los Angeles, Klown Forever is scripted by Hvam and Christensen, and is directed by Mikkel Nørgaard, who was also behind Klown and most recently signed the two best-selling Danish thrillers The Keeper of Lost Causes [+see also:

(2014), based on the Jussi Adler-Olsen franchise.

“The reason it took four years to come up with a sequel is that we needed an idea so strong that the resulting film would surpass the first. With the script we've made now, there's a good chance that this is it," said Hvam and Christensen. This time around, they are initially separated, since Christensen has decided to go to LA to pursue a solo career – but Hvam follows, as he wants to win back his friend.

The cast includes US actress Isla Fisher, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and Danish Hollywood actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Jesper Zartov will produce for Hvam-Christensen’s Nutmeg Movies, Nordisk Film Distribution will launch the film in September, and the UK’s Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales.
