Born out of wedlock at the beginning of the twentieth century, Violette Leduc meets Simone de Beauvoir in Saint-Germain-des-Prés after the war. A long-lasting and intense relationship is forged between the two authors, based on Violette’s search for freedom through writing and Simone’s conviction that she holds the destiny of an extraordinary writer in her hands.

, directed by Martin Provost and starring Emmanuelle Devos, Sandrine Kiberlain and Olivier Gourmet, was released in Italian theatres today, under the distribution of Movies Inspired. It’s been a long time coming too, considering that the film was released in France in November 2013.

by Iris Elezi and Thomas Logoreci is an Italo-Albanian co-production that won awards at the Karlovy Vary and Reykjavic film festivals. Distributed by PMI and Istituto Luce Cinecittà, the film is a snapshot of modern-day Albania and the life of a small community made up of the victims of persecution, forgotten by time in a remote village where the families of the three protagonists have always been.

Then there’s Napolislam by Ernesto Pagano, the protagonists of which are Neapolitans who have converted to Islam. They’re ordinary people, all different, who have found an answer to social injustice, unbridled consumerism and the blackout of hope in the Qur’an. Distributed by I Wonder Pictures.

by Finnish director Jalmari Helander, which has been co-produced by Germany, the U.K. and Finland and is being distributed by Eagle Pictures. Then there’s Japanese animation Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Lost Tower byMasahiko Murata, which is being distributed byLucky Red/Key Films. Lucky Red is also distributing the documentary on Scientology Going Clear by Alex Gibney

Two Italian comedies being released in theatres today are Crushed Lives – Sex or Kids?, which is directed by Alessandro Colizzi,stars Walter Leonardi and Nicoletta Romanoff and is being distributed by FD distribuzione, and We are Francesco by Guendalina Zampagni starring Elena Sofia Ricci, which is being distributed by Microcinema. Francesca Marra’s erotic thriller Soundtrack,starring Andrea Osvart and Vincenzo Amato, is also in theatres under the distribution of Distribuzione Straordinaria. 

From the U.S.A. this week is Contagious by Henry Hobson starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which is being distributed in Italy by M2 Pictures, and Ted 2 by Seth MacFarlane, which is bring distributed byUniversal Pictures Italy, whilst Videa is bringing 5 Flights Up by Richard Loncraine, starring Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton, to Italian theatres.
