Pavel Jech and Nicos Panayotopoulos are the illustrious trainers at Eastweek, the international screenplay workshop dedicated to developing film scripts, the latest edition of which is taking place in Trieste from 24-30 January 2016, in parallel with the Trieste Film Festival.

Jech is the principal of the FAMU film school in Prague and specialises in teaching screenwriting and dramaturgy in both the Czech Republic and the United States (where he graduated from Columbia University in New York). His textbook "Seven Minute Screenplay", which he wrote with Mary Angiolillo, is used by universities all over the world.

Panayotopoulos writes novels that have been translated and published in various European countries, and he teaches screenwriting at numerous schools, including the Film Department at the University of Athens’ School of Fine Arts. He has written a plethora of short films, TV series and films. Since 2013, he has been the Head of Studies at the MFI Mediterranean Film Institute.

Organised by Alpe Adria Cinema and stemming from the exchanges between the Trieste Film Festival and film schools and academies in Central and Eastern Europe, EastWeek’s main aim is to develop the selected projects during the tricky phase of writing the screenplay for a film, through a course of tutoring, master classes and case studies. The countries that the projects originate from include Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Poland and Italy.

One part of the talent campus programme (in partnership with MAIA workshops) is focused on developing the production and marketing potential of each individual project through lectures given by professionals from the sector and sessions dedicated to this topic.

EastWeek is open to the finalists for Best Screenplay in the Mattador International Award for Screenwriting, dedicated to Matteo Caenazzo; to students at film schools and academies in Eastern Europe; and to the young graduates of these schools. The winner will be entitled to take part in a training session made available by official partner Midpoint, in order to complete the training they began at Trieste.

EastWeek is organised thanks to the support of the Central European Initiative and in partnership with the Midpoint Central European Script Center.
