Næss: from Elling to Bea

2003 promises to be another busy year for prolific Norwegian director Petter Næss. Following on the international success of Elling [+see also:

film profile], Næss’s future may well include a move to the United States to direct Earthbound for 20th Century Fox. Meanwhile in July Næss is scheduled to begin work on Just Bea, written by Johan Bogaeus, the author of the screenplay of Swedish hit, En häxa i familjen (directed by Harald Hamrell).
Just Bea, a Swedish/Norwegian co-production by Maipo Film, FilmLance International and the Swedish Film Institute - SFI - was made on DV and stars Kaja Foss, as Bea, a teenager experiencing problems with her love life. The feature also received backing from the Nordic Film Fund to the tune of DKR7m (Euros859,000).
Bare Bea will be distributed on 23 January 2004 by Nordisk Film Biografdistribution with
Nordisk Film International Sales handling international sales.
