is the first feature film by Meikeminne Clinckspoor, who has dedicated herself to making children’s films since the beginning of her career. Originally from the Netherlands, she studied at the KASK Conservatorium in Ghent, where the short film she made as her graduation project, De Wensboom, was also a children’s film. For her debut feature, she intends to stick to this genre, with a family adventure. She incidentally also helps young actors as they start out in the profession, having previously coached children on several film shoots, most notably on the shoot for Bullhead [+see also:

Nillas, a young boy, lives alone with his father in a small town in Norway. He knows very little about his mother, who’s Swedish. During the summer of his 11th birthday, he is sent away to meet the new family of this mother he doesn’t know, in faraway Swedish Lapland. Although the family welcomes him with open arms, this city kid doesn’t cope well with the transition, from video games to the realities of rural life. Out there in the sticks, only his new sister, Sunna, manages to really get through to him. She takes him on a magical trek deep into the woods, where Nillas gradually turns into Cloudboy.

Filming will take place throughout summer, in Norway and Belgium. Cloudboy is being produced by Kathleen Goosens for Bulletproof Cupid, a company based in Antwerp, which notably produced the short film Swimsuit 46 by Wannes Destoop, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. The film is being co-produced by Submarine (the Netherlands), GötaFilm International (Sweden), and StorylineNOR (Norway). The film has received funding from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund and the Netherlands Film Fund, along with Creative Europe MEDIA. It will be distributed by Jekino, a well-known company specialising in the distribution of films for young audiences. The film is slated for release for some time in 2017.
