film profile] by young, Berlin-based Swiss director Michael Koch, a film that had its world premiere in the international competition at Locarno, is continuing its journey and is shortly to land at the Toronto Film Festival (8-18 September) in Canada, where it will form part of the Discovery section. Marija is a powerful movie, further enhanced by Margarita Breitkreiz’s magnetic performance. Koch’s astonishing feature debut is an observation on the complex phenomenon of immigration, as seen from the inside, and devoid of false modesty or prejudice. Marija is a German (Pandora Film Produktion and Little Shark Entertanment) and Swiss (Hugo Film) production, in co-production with WDR, ARTE and SRF/SRG/SSR.
