03/10/2016 - Joost van Ginkel’s film stood out at the Dutch film awards, handed out at the end of the Netherlands Film Festival

film profile] by Joost van Ginkel was the big winner of the 2016 Golden Calves, the Dutch equivalent of the Oscars, which were handed out at the end of the 36^th Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) last Friday night.

The film, which premiered in September last year and represented the Netherlands at the latest Academy Awards, took home a total of three trophies: Best Film, Best Screenplay (written by director Joost van Ginkel) and Best Actor for the Burkinabé-born actor, Issaka Sawadogo.

Other winning titles at the Golden Calves ceremony included David Verbeek’s Full Contact [+see also:

film profile], which earned Boudewijn Koole the prize for Best Director and also received the Best Sound Design(Mark Glynne) and Best Music(Alex Simu) Awards.

The winning feature films were selected by the members of the Dutch Academy for Film, while the Golden Calves for TV and short documentaries were awarded by a jury. A total of 200 professionals voted this year.

Next year’s NFF, its 37^th edition, will be held between 20 and 29 September 2017.
