film profile]: at that time, the filmmaker was writing the screenplay for a film that would attempt to tickle the audience’s funny bone, in much the same way as his 2002 effort The Biggest Robbery Never Told did. And it seems as though it is already becoming a reality, as the movie is in post-production after a shoot that took place in the spring in Madrid, Barcelona, the Canary Islands, Brazil, Mexico and Casablanca (Morocco) with a clutch of actors including Galician thesp Luis Tosar, Canary Islander Toni Acosta, Peru’s Stephanie Cayo, Catalan actor Joan Pera and Argentina’s Rodrigo de la Serna (who was nominated for the Goya Award for To Steal from a Thief [+see also:

With a storyline penned by Monzón himself and his loyal co-screenwriter Jorge Guerricaechevarría, Yucatán unfolds on board a cruise ship operating a route between Barcelona and the titular Mexican peninsula, stopping over in the Canaries, Morocco and Brazil. Two scamps have found work in this floating world and spend their time swindling unsuspecting travellers: they used to be friends back in the mists of time, but a beautiful woman created an ocean-sized abyss between them. In this film, Luis Tosar (who is working with Monzón again after he appeared in Heart of the Warrior, Cell 211 [+see also:

film profile] and El niño) sings and dances, and will surely elicit fits of laughter in this comedy with a classic feel but peppered with moments of lunacy, irony, adventure, drama and suspense.
