East Doc Platform (3-9 March), the biggest documentary industry event in Eastern Europe, taking place alongside the Prague One World Human Rights Film Festival, gave out its awards last night at the closing ceremony.
The Polish-German project Angels of Sinjar. Yazidis - 21st Century Genocide, directed by Hanna Polak, received both the HBO Europe Award, consisting of €2,000 for project development, and the Czech TV Co-production Award, worth €5,800.
The Current Time TV Award went to two projects, each receiving €1,500: Ksenia Gapchenko's Holy Culture (Russia) and Liuba Ziamtsova's The Place of Love (Belarus).
The Czech Project Amoosed! by Hana Nováková won the Golden Funnel Award, while the IDFA Forum Award went to Journey to the End of the Night by Ksenia Elyan (Russia/Estonia).
Peter Kerekes' Wishing on a Star (Italy/Austria/Czech Republic/Slovakia) pocketed the prize that takes it to Speed Meetings at DocsBarcelona, while two Polish projects will go to the DOK Leipzig Co-Pro Meetings and Dok Preview presentation, respectively: Malgorzata Goliszewska and Katarzyna Mateja's Lessons of Love, and Oleksiy Radynski's Hacking Friendship.
At the If/Then Short Pitch, the Czech-German-UK co-production Blackandwhite by Zoe Eluned Aiano and Anna Benner won $20,000 in production support from IF/Then, as well as a year-round ongoing mentorship and participation in a year-long distribution initiative managed by the Tribeca Film Institute.
Finally, the Sheffield Doc/Fest Award, consisting of an invitation to the UK festival's market, went to the best project presented at the Czech Docs… Coming Soon session, which this year was Francesco Montagner's In the Name of Allah.
