You’re never too old to turn your life around. That is the message behind the new film by Gianni Di Gregorio, Lontano lontano [+see also:

(lit. “Far, Far Away”, provisional title Cittadini del mondo), the shoot for which got under way in Rome a few days ago. You’re never too old – or at least that’s what Attilio, Giorgetto and the Teacher are hoping. One day, these three Romans in their seventies, all victims in their own various ways, decide to pack in their old lives in the local neighbourhood and go and live abroad. But where exactly? This is just the first in a long series of questions that need answering, but the Teacher, who has been in retirement after a lifetime of teaching Latin, is getting extremely bored, Giorgetto, the last remaining vestige of Rome’s common folk, can’t make it to the end of the month, and Attilio, a beatnik junk dealer, would like to relive the excitement of the countless journeys he made when he was young. They have all resolved to turn their lives around, and they will succeed, albeit perhaps not in the way they had imagined.

Written by Marco Pettenello together with the director, Lontano lontano stars Gianni Di Gregorio himself, just like all his other films, alongside Ennio Fantastichini and Giorgio Colangeli. The fourth movie by the Roman director is being produced by Angelo Barbagallo, of Bibi Film, together with Rai Cinema, in co-production with French outfit Le Pacte.
