Between 31 March and 17 April 2005, 150 films from 46 countries will screen at the 16th Natfilm Festival, the biggest film event in Denmark taking place in every cinema in Copenhagen as well as in Odense, Aalborg, Århus and in the cities of Southern Sweden Malmö and Lund.

film profile] will be the opening film on 31 March and the film’s French-Italian star Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi will also be Natfilm’s ‘cover star’ with eight of her feature films screening at the festival.
New German, East-European, French, Italian, British, Indian, Hollywood, Latin American, Nordic films are among the special sections of this year’s programme, alongside a special tribute to fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen as part of his 200 year birthday celebration.

Although a non-competitive event, Natfilm will still present the Natsvaermer Award (3,500€) on 31 March to a young Danish film talent, and two other awards will be revealed at the closing night ceremony before the screening of Clint Eastwood’s Oscar winning film Million Dollar Baby. The Natfilm Audience Award (17.500€) will be given to one of 82 international feature films with no prior distribution deal in Denmark including the British 9 Songs, the German The Edukators, the French Kings & Queens, the Italian The Consequences of Love, and the Norwegians Uno and Hawai, Oslo [+see also:

film profile] . The Natfilm Audience Award winner will also be broadcast on Danish television following its Danish theatrical release.
Finally TV5’s Critics’ Award (3,500€) will reward one of eight first and second films among the festival’s programme, including the French film Innocence by Lucile Hadzihalilovic.
