The European co-production The Headsman, a €5m medieval epic has been sold in Cannes by German sales company Solo Media to Film Entertainment Group (FEG) for Belgium and Holland, as well as to Brazil (Casablanca).

Directed by Swiss-born Simon Aeby ( Three Below Zero) and starring Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Wimbledon Kingdom of Heaven), Peter McDonald (Nora) and Steven Berkoff (Fair Game), the film was produced by Helmut Grasser (Allegro Film, Austria) in co-production with F&ME (UK), Eurofilm (Hungary), Samsa Film (Luxembourg), T&C Film (Switzerland) and Peter Rommel Filmproduktion (Germany). According to UK co-producer Mike Downey, the film took over two years to be made. "It was quite a complicated six European countries co-production. For the first time I used Hungarian tax shelters for the film and I worked with a Luxembourg partner," he said. "I was brought to the project by the German producer Peter Rommel who then introduced me to Helmut Grasser. They wanted a bigger budget English language film and wanted me involved."
The film will be released next autumn in Austria and Switzerland.
