A musical debut

by

Alain Berliner's musical, temporarily retitled, after Gene Astaire and Broadway dans la tête will start shooting on August the 1st for 11 weeks shared between Belgium and Luxemburg.

Starring Vincent Elbaz, Cécile de France, Pascal Langdale, Jean-Pierre Cassel, Pierre Cassignar and Jeanne Balibar, Alain Berliner's new project pays tribute to musicals and to Broadway, Sinatra and Minelli's America. But according to Alain Berliner's habits, behind a certain aesthetic exuberance and surrealist narration, lie intimate secrets and half broken realities. Broadway depicts both a passion passed down from generation to generation, that of dancing, and a recurrent family desertion from father to son.

Since Passion of mind (2000), a romantic fantasy comedy starring Demi Moore, Alain Berliner has not been behind the camera since. In 2003, La Maison du Canal was made for Belgian television whereas La Sirène Rouge's script in 2002 was shot by the French Olivier Mégaton. It is therefore the director's long-awaited comeback after his first feature film Ma vie en rose's huge success in 1997.

Supported by Promimages, Eurimage and Média, the film whose budget totals 5,332 million euros is a co-production between Belgium (Artémis Productions, Média Service, WBF), Luxemburg (Samsa Film), France (Liaison cinématographique, Nord-Ouest Production, Pan-Européenne) and Great-Britain Ipso Facto. TF1 International will handle the sales and the musical will be distributed in Belgium by Cinéart-Cinélibre, in France by TFM Distribution and in Luxemburg by Samsa Distribution. A first copy of the film is to be released in May 2006, before the Cannes Film Festival and its premiere is to take place after the event.
