Toronto, Saura returns with Iberia

Tomorrow, 15 of September, the Toronto International Film Festival will host the world premiere of Carlos Saura's new film Iberia. The film is part of the festival's sidebar section "Masters", which is also featuring other works by prestigious European directors such as Michael Haneke's Hidden [+see also:

After The Seventh Day, a drama about the bloody feuds between two families and set in rural Spain, the 73 year old director returns to the dance-musical register that marked some of his most acclaimed films over the ten years: Flamenco (1995), Tango (1998) or Salomé (2002). Produced by Álvaro Longoria (Morena Films), the film tends once more towards flamenco, through which it is possible to rediscovery the legacy of Catalan composer Isaac Albéniz.

The film is due to open in Spain at the end of the year, on the centenary of the composition of 'Iberia'. Saura's forthcoming film, a co-production between Fado Filmes (Portugal) and Zebra Producciones (Spain), about the Portuguese national song, fado, is still under development.
