Korec films Keep Smiling
by Sakis Kontos
Two or more features being filmed at the same time in Slovakia is a rarity, considering that the country has produced only two films (excluding co-productions) in the last calendar year. But things are changing in the Slovakian film industry, or at least so it seems. Pavol Korec started shooting Keep Smiling in Bratislava, while in a different part of the city Juraj Nvota continues filming of his Music.
Keep Smiling is a “comedy thriller” according to its producers. It tells the story of a young reporter whose life is badly influenced by men. The most important of them though turns to be the one she accidentally meets for a few seconds during a dramatic incident.
The film stars Agnes Gubiková, a young ethnic Hungarian who spends most of her days in Budapest, and Milan Mikulcik (Cruel Joys), Peter Bebjak and Czech actor Pavel Reznícek (The New Breed).
Korec, 47, co-wrote the script with Alzbeta Bohynska and is also producing it in association with Tyzam Ltd. and the support by the cinema fund of the Slovak Ministry of Culture. The film’s planned release date is provisionally set for early 2007.
