The official competition of the 56th Berlin film festival (February 9-19 2006) is almost at a close with 17 feature films in competition, 13 of which are European productions and co-productions. Featuring in the line up are old favourites, such as French director Claude Chabrol (as announced by Cineuropa on November 21 – read news) and British director Michael Winterbottom, but also four German filmmakers (Oskar Roehler, Hans-Christian Schmid, Matthias Glasner and Valeska Grisebach), and not forgetting Italy's Michele Placido, Britain's Marc Evans, Austria's Michael Glawogger, Denmark's Pernille Fischer Christensen and Bosnia's Jasmila Zbanic. Also worth noting among the six films announced out of competition is the French production The Science of Sleep by Michel Gondry. In total, the Official Selection currently features 23 feature films out of 26 that should include the edition, but it is also now necessary to include, if Italian rumours are to be trusted, Roberto Benigni's The Tiger And The Snow [+see also:
