FESTIVALS Germany

Record attendance for Munich

by

For its 25th anniversary, the Munich Film Festival, held in the Bavarian city from June 22-30, received a birthday present from its public: a record attendance.

Over 65,000 visitors attended the event this year, which opened with the German premiere of Werner Herzog’s new film and closed with a victory for Mirage by Simon Groß. The result – beating by a hair's breadth the record set in 2004 – represents a 12% rise over last year's figures.

The record is all the more significant since it does not even take into account the many participants at the Forums, workshops and discussions at the Munich event.

The Munich festival therefore deserves its title as Germany's second most important film event after the Berlinale.

Its 2008 edition will take place June 20-28.
