FUNDING Germany

DFFF exceeds all expectations

by

The new German film fund, the DFFF, created in January, is already exceeding all anticipated results. According to estimates, €55m will be granted this year (€31.2m was allocated in the first half of the year, with a further €23.8m remaining), generating revenue of €364m for the German film industry.

Peter Dinges, director of the FFA (Filmförderungsanstalt: regulatory body for German cinema), is pleased with the results. "We have already improved the German film economy and industry and have given the impetus to foster production in Germany. We’ve clearly reached our objectives earlier than expected," he said. If the government continues its support policy, Germany could attract an increasing number of large international productions.

Project Manager of the new funds Christine Berg says that "47 national and international productions of all sizes and genres have already received DFFF backing, and a further 34 requests will be met" by the end of this year.

The DFFF will have an annual budget of €60m in 2008 and 2009.
