Rooster’s Breakfast biggest domestic hit of last five years

Just after the conclusion of the 10th Festival of Slovenian Film, debut director Marko Naberšnik's Rooster’s Breakfast (Petelinji zajtrk, produced by Arsmedia) went on its triumphant way to Slovenian theatres.

The first weekend immediately proved that the dramatic love story - an adaptation of the novel of one of Slovenia's most popular writers, Feri Lainšček - was not awarded by chance its five prizes at the official national festival that takes place every autumn in Portorož. The international jury (Martin Blaney, Andreas Stroehl and Peter Zobec) presented the film with the Best Directing and Best Screenplay awards, among others.

The film garnered 85,000 admissions in six weeks since its October 18 release in Ljubljana and these figures are still growing, with an increase of 9.30% this week alone. Rooster’s Breakfast is the biggest domestic box office hit of the last five years.

The film was made with the support of the public Slovenian Film Fund and is the best motivation for local filmmakers who have been highly critical towards financing projects through the public sector lately.
