Cotillard (32) was twice nominated for a Cesar award for Best Female Newcomer (in 1999 for Taxi and in 2002 for Pretty Things) before winning the Cesar in 2005 for Best Supporting Actress in A Very Long Engagement. Her filmography also includes Tim Burton’s Big Fish and Ridley Scott’s A Good Year.

The Golden Globe, awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, augurs well for Cotillard’s chances of an Oscar, the nominations for which will be announced on January 22.

After picking up the Best Director Award at Cannes 2007, The Diving Bell – which was produced by Pathé Renn Productions and co-produced by France 3 Cinéma with the support of the Nord-Pas de Calais region (CRRAV) – helped to cement the international reputation of actor Mathieu Amalric, who will play a bad guy in the next James Bond film.
