Katyn honoured at the Eagles

was the firm favourite yesterday evening at the 2008 Eagles Polish Film Awards, having received 11 nominations. The film picked up a total of seven awards.

The Polish Film Academy crowned Katyn Best Film of 2007. The title also won Best Supporting Actress (Danuta Stenka), Best Cinematography (Pawel Edelman), Best Original Score (Krzysztof Penderecki), Best Sound (Jacek Hamela), Best Production Design (Magdalena Dipont) and Best Costume Design (Magdalena Biedrzycka).

To the audience’s surprise, the award for Best Director did not go to Wajda but to Andrzej Jakimowski for Tricks [+see also:

. Jakimowski also won the Audience Award and the film’s actor Tomasz Sapryk received the award for Best Supporting Actor.

As for leading roles, Danuta Szaflarska picked up the Best Actress Award for her performance in Dorota Kedziezawska’s Time To Die and Robert Wieckiewicz won Best Actor for Tomasz Wiszniewski’s Wszystko bedzie dobrze (“Everything Will Be Alright”).

Sonia Bohosiewicz was crowned Discovery of the Year for her role in Lukasz Polkowski’s Reserve.

Andrzej Baranski, the director of A Few People, a Little Time, received the award for Best Screenplay and the film’s editor Wanda Zeman also picked up a prize.

The other major prize-winner at the 2008 Eagles ceremony was Janusz Morgenstern (Good Bye, Till Tomorrow, To Kill This Love), who was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Finally, the members of the Academy deemed Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Lives of Others [+see also:
