Cinema bids farewell to Maestro Dino Risi

by

Dino Risi, one of the “maestros” of Italian cinema, passed away today in Rome. The 91-year-old native of Milan had been ill for some time.

The most acclaimed titles of Risi’s career, which spanned over 50 films, include Poor But Beautiful, 15 From Rome, Torture Me But Kill Me With Kisses, The Easy Life and In the Name of the Italian People. He worked with great actors, from Vittorio Gassman and Sophia Loren to Jean-Louis Trintignant, and in 1974 his Scent of a Woman won Risi two Oscar nominations.

"A piece of our history disappears with him," said renowned press agent Enrico Lucherini, who had worked with Risi on his perhaps most famous film, The Easy Life. "It was a very courageous film. Killing a comic actor is not an easy thing for an audience to accept and I remember him very well at the premiere. He was truly worked up but in the end it was a huge success.”
