Deluge of awards at Lodz

The 6th Camerimage Festival (November 29-December 6) – which is currently underway in Lodz and celebrates cinematographers (see news) – has presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to France’s Pierre Lhomme.

Also honouring lifetime achievement, the prize for a "director with unique visual sensitivity” this year goes to the UK’s Alan Parker. Polish filmmaker Andrzej Zulawski also received the same award.

The work of the prize-winners is presented at the festival in reviews and retrospectives, as well as special publications, monographs and exhibitions.

Among the special prizes, the Award for Outstanding Achievements in Documentary Filmmaking went to major Polish director Kazimierz Karabaszw. Meanwhile, the Award to the Producer of Visually Outstanding Films was handed to the UK’s Jeremy Thomas, who has produced films by Bertolucci, Cronenberg, Frears, Reisz, Schlondorff, Skolimowski, Oshima and Kitano.

The Special Award to the Production Designer with Unique Visual Sensitivity was presented to the US’ Arthur Max (Gladiator, Se7en, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster), and the Award to the Actor with Unique Visual Sensitivity to Viggo Mortensen.

Finally, the Special Award to the Editor with Unique Visual Sensitivity was handed to Pietro Scalia, who has won two Oscars and worked with Ridley Scott.
