Ali Neuman, who as a child barely survived a massacre orchestrated by the Inkhata (a militant political party at war with Nelson Mandela's ANC), is head of the Cape Town police homicide branch. One of the members of his team is Brian Epkeen, a white officer whose family was involved in setting up apartheid, but who works efficiently with Neuman. Together, they are confronted with the inevitable criminality of urban areas overrun by unemployment and an underground economy, violence that is exacerbated by gangs. Their job becomes more complicated when two women's bodies are discovered. The case is linked to a new unhealthy mindset and a new drug in town. At the chaotic crossroads of brutality and modernity, the echo of apartheid continues to resonate in the shadows of a society struggling to reach reconciliation.
