The 13th edition of Meetings on the Bridge has come to a close with the awards ceremony, held on 13 April at the Institut Français Istanbul, and introduced by Istanbul Film Festival director Kerem Ayan and Meetings on the Bridge director Gülin Üstün. During the ceremony, the international co-production and networking platform of the 37th Istanbul Film Festival announced its winners, which were chosen from among the 17 film projects in development and six projects in post-production (see the news).

Starting off with the Film Development Workshop and Neighbours Platform, which included projects hailing from Turkey and its neighbouring countries – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran and Syria – the jury, comprising Berlinale World Cinema Fund project manager Vincenzo BugnoPicture Tree International sales agent Rickard OlssonKomplizen Film producer Zsuzsanna Kiràly, funding advisor at Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg Teresa Hoefert de Turegano and MFI screenwriting mentor Giovanni Robbiano, decided on the winners after the project presentations.

The big winner of the Meetings on the Bridge Award, valued at €6,000 (30,000 Turkish lira), was Ali Kemal Çınar with his project Normal, produced by Sinan Yusufoğlu in co-production with Nesra Gürbüz. The other main award, the CNC Award, which comes with €8,000, was presented to Gürcan Keltek’s new Turkish-Dutch project New Dawn Fades, which is being produced by Arda Çiltepe and Marc Van Goethem of 29P Films.

As for the technical awards, The List of Those Who Love Me, directed by Emre Erdoğdu and produced by Zeynep Koray and Emine İzmir, received the Melodika Sound Award; A Day or Part of a Day by Burak Çevik, produced by Selman Nacar, won the GeniusPark Special Effects Award; while the Postbıyık Sound Production Award, which was handed out for the first time, went to the Georgian project The Empty House by Rati Tsiteladze, produced by the director and Nino Varsimashvili. Finally, Everything in Its Right Place by Berrak Çolak, produced by Engin Palabıyık, will be invited to the upcoming Transilvania Pitch Stop, which will take place during the 17th Transilvania International Film Festival (25 May-3 June), and My Brother's Army by Senem Tüzen, produced by Zela Film’s Adam Isenberg, received an invitation to the Mediterranean Film Institute (MFI) workshops for script development.

In the Work in Progress workshop, the jury members (Kerri Craddock, director of programming for the Toronto International Film FestivalMeinolf Zurhorst, head of the ARTE film department, ZDF; and Ioanna Stais, head of sales and acquisitions at Heretic Outreach) picked the winning projects from among the six participants. Ali Vatansever’s sophomore film, Saf [+lee también:

, produced by Selin Vatansever Tezcan (Terminal Film) in co-production with Harry FlöterJörg Siepmann (2Pilots Film, Germany) and Anamaria Antoci (4 Proof Film, Romania), received the Color Up Award, which covers the expenses of online editing and colour grading, and the Daire Creative Key Art Design Award.

The other awards were split between Osman Doğan’s The Pigeon Thieves, produced by Sinan Sertel and Turgay Şahin, which received the Başka Sinema Award, and Siren’s Call by Ramin Matin, staged by Emine Yıldırım and Oğuz Kaynak, which picked up the Paz Digital Communication Award.

Running for four days (11-14 April), the 13th Meetings on the Bridge also held a series of nine Cinema Talks, a specialised case study focused on “Filming in France” and one workshop dedicated to virtual-reality experiences.
