Award-winning Polish director and animator Tomasz Bagiński is now developing a new science-fiction film project entitled Twardovsky 3.14. This will be Bagiński’s debut feature, but he has also recently been announced as the director of a new TV series produced by Netflix, The Witcher, based on the literary saga of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The feature will be a continuation of a previous series of short films entitled Polish Legends, which comprised five episodes – namely, Jaga, Operacja Bazyliszek, Twardovsky, Twardowsky 2.0 and The Dragon. These short films are still available on YouTube and have racked up over 50 million views since 2015, when they were made available to the public.
Bagiński’s new project focuses on futuristic interpretations of Polish and Slavic fables and legends. In this respect, the director explained: “We can reveal that Twardowsky 3.14 will be a continuation of the adventures of some of our protagonists, but not all of them, as we will be adding a couple of new characters. We will visit hell. We will visit the past and future of Poland. We want to bring Twardowsky to the Earth, so he can join the other heroes from Polish Legends.”
While in Polish tradition Pan Twardowski is a sorcerer who made a deal with the Devil in exchange for special powers, in this new adaptation, the character will be an astronaut racing Lucifer to the edge of the Solar System. The protagonist is expected to be played by famous Polish actor Robert Więckiewicz (True Crimes [+lee también:

Allegro, one of the producers of this picture, has not yet disclosed the overall budget but has come up with a rather original form of financing. Various items of merchandise – such as mugs, T-shirts, caps and autographs – are available for purchase, seats to attend the pre-release screening are already on sale, and a visit to the set can even be bought for about 12,000 Polish złoty (€2,750).
Produced by Warsaw-based production companies Platige Image and Next Film in co-operation with Polish e-commerce platform Allegro, Twardovsky 3.14’s world premiere is planned for the last quarter of 2019.
