(in competition at Toronto and San Sebastian in 2016). This time around,Bonello will play on the border between ethnology and fantasy by focusing on the destiny of a Haitian girl called Clairvius Narcisse, victim of a voodoo spell that has turned her into a zombie. Jumping between stories and eras, from 1962 Haiti to modern-day Paris, and between Narcisse, a 15-year-old Haitian girl and her aunt, a voodoo priestess, the director will place the Haitian zombie – and the origins of the cinematographic genre – in a historical and political context. Filming is due to take place in France at the end of 2018 and in Haiti in January 2019. Production is being handled by My New Pictures and Les Films du Bal.

Arte France Cinéma has also selected 2019 (provisional title) by the Filipino director Lav Diaz (Golden Lion at Venice in 2016 with The Woman Who Left, Alfred Bauer Award at Berlin in 2016 for A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery and in competition in 2018 with Season of the Devil, Golden Leopard at Locarno in 2014 with From What Is Before, and selected for the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2013 with Norte, the End of History).
