BACKSTAGE

by Emmanuelle Bercot

synopsis

For 16-year-old Lucie, the one thing that gives life meaning is the enigmatic and inaccessible pop idol Lauren. She worships her. Pictures of Lauren cover the walls of her bedroom, fill the pages of her diary. Through her, Lucie escapes her stifling existence in the small, dreary French town where she lives unhappily with her celebrity-obsessed mother. Then chance intervenes, allowing the adoring young fan to enter the inner sanctum of her idol's entourage. An innocent, she is swiftly drawn into a perverse, painful, impossible relationship with the star of her dreams, whose happiness becomes her sole fixation. But to try and reunite Lauren with the man who has left her, and without whom she cannot continue, Lucie concocts a dangerous, self-destructive plan.
