COMME À OSTENDE

by Delphine Lehericey

synopsis

Maria lives in Paris, Léo in Brussels. They have been separated for a year. Despite the distance, they cannot quite make the final break. One morning, Maria receives a call from Léo who begs her to leave him alone. By day, Léo is a psychoanalyst and at night he goes to see his father, who is suffering Alzheimer’s, before taking over from his sister Clara at the family grocery store. Exhausted, he can no longer deal with all his commitments, and, pressured by Clara, agrees to drive his father to a hospice in Ostend. In Paris, Maria is not happy in her work. Wandering in a somewhat distracted state, she is run over by a car and leaves the city on a sudden impulse, to go and see Léo. She arrives in Brussels the day Léo and his father are leaving and decides to go with them...
